The Bridge Cafe
A disappointing day in Hoxton today. It has been cleaned up. No more adventurous street art and fewer independent shops and cafe's it seems too. The heady day's when we attended vastly overpopulated private views at White Cube for Damien Hirst and Gilbert & George are now over.
Like the many and varied Vietnamese restaurants on the Kingsland Road, the Bridge Cafe is immune to fashion and trend. Although I have known it for a long time and enjoyed the English eclectic decor on the first floor, this is the first time I have noticed the word 'Bar' as well. Down stairs there is a long dark counter where I have sat drinking espresso and eating cake. Alcohol didn't come into it. Now I believe it is open until 4am, catching the trade of late night clubbers on their way home to Hackney.
