Apple Harvest
Despite the cold spring, I do have an abundance of apples this year, they will be eaten from the tree, juiced, cooked and frozen, given away to friends and of course the donkeys are getting the windfalls!
I was surprised and saddened recently when in a supermarket in Ilkley not to see even one variety of English apple. They were all from South Africa, New Zealand and France! Apples are in season in the UK and Ireland and there are hundreds of delicious varieties, but sadly many orchards have been grubbed out and apples are imported, the economics of this don't make sense to me and what about the concept of consuming locally produced goods?!
