Jerry's backyard is unusual for Albuquerque.

First of all he is a gardener of flowers, which is remarkable in itself, and second he and Steve never spray insecticides. This means they have built up a wonderful biodiversity of insects, which from my perspective is just perfect.

I have seen at least 6 species of native bees on a clump of cosmos, and this is a pretty good image of one of them, even if I do say so myself. Jerry and Steve have provided a "bee hotel" for native bees which is fantastic, and they are reaping the rewards with great pollination, all around their yard.

Just check out the pollen which is coating this little fellow from head to foot.
