Paddy's Milestone.......(Ailsa Craig)
Visited this fabby wee island today.....passed it many times and always looked accross....usually like Rhubarrb seeing it bathed in an evening sun....It is known as paddy's milestone, as for the Irish immigrants, itinerant seasonal workers, (tattie howkers etc) and the like, it was the first marker before the river Clyde and the Broomielaw where they all disembarked.
I was totally shocked at how green it was......the large Gannet colony and the shapes of the rocks which look natural but were blasted to get at the granite for the famous curling stones.....it provides a great spot for a gannetry. It was suuuuuuuch a cool island. Would I go again???? YES YES.....all of you out there, this is sooooo worth a visit.
