Memorial Day

In the US, Memorial Day ushers in the summer season whereas Labor Day signifies the end. Although barbecues and department store sales are standard fare for Memorial Day weekend, it doesn't hurt to give remembrance to our fallen heroes regardless of the circumstances and politics that put them in harms way.

This is the Fort Richardson National Cemetery. It's one of two in the State of Alaska. Most states in the US have national cemeteries available for burial of veterans and their dependents.

The US also maintains 24 battlefield cemeteries on international soil. Two of those I've been to (Luxembourg American Cemetery, and Normandy American Cemetery). I wish I had the proper words to express how I felt stepping on those grounds.
