Bedside books

They pile up as I get overtaken by an enthusiasm and then the enthusiasm will cool but the book stays put. The Sara Paretsky has been there for so long that I've forgotten the plot. Seamus Heaney is there for when I wake up at 3 am and can't go back to sleep. He soothes the soul. Thomas Mann's Magic Mountain is coming with me to India.

Tom brought his girlfriend for dinner tonight, the first time we met her. She's pretty, attractive, intelligent - and loves football! Football is very important to Tom. It was a good evening, I hope she comes back again soon.

I spent the morning weeding, pruning, tying up plants. I'm trying to get the garden tidied before I go to India, but so far I've only managed about half the beds. I think that'll have to do, I've too much else to do before leaving on Friday.
