Scoots, Shoots & Leaves

Apprentices gone wild!

Our group of apprentice teachers finally got to let our hair down tonight. In the year we've been together, we haven't really sung together! So we went to Voicebox, a karaoke lounge where we rented a suite for three hours and sang all the songs we haven't been able to sing all year! We sounded fabulous of course! but our voice coaches would have had a collective heart attack listening to our belting and yelling! Man, it felt good! We sang Queen and Madonna and Aretha, the Supremes, the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkle, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, Mama Mia! and Stevie Wonder and so much more! What a blast! It was so much fun to hear each other singing styles far out of the realm of what we've heard all year.

We worked up quite an appetite, so we went out for Indian food afterward and talked about our experience of being in this program and the challenges we're now facing as new voice teachers. We realized that a monthly potluck/gab and singing session is a must for the future! I so appreciate the support and camaraderie this group provides. Not an ounce of competition among us, which is partly due to the culture of the Institute and partly due to this particular group of amazing people.
