Dizzying Heights

Some months back, Roseannasnp blipped a shot of this ceiling in the Glasgow City Chambers, and I really wanted to see it for myself sometime. Today I had my chance, during Doors Open Day.

What I discovered was that Roseanna had hidden from me this amazing window!

Though I liked this view, generally speaking the whole building is incredibly overdone. Pattern upon pattern, luxury upon luxury. I couldn't help wondering how different things would be, if the huge sum of money spent on this municipal palace (£60m in today's currency) had been spent on improving the quality of life for the poor in late Victorian Glasgow.
