Weapon of Mass Juliennification
What gets me all a-quiver? A well-made knife, that's what. This is my new darling - an 8 inch chef's knife made by Achim Wirtz, a friend who happens to be something of a god among European knifemakers.
The full tang blade is made from hand-forged tungsten steel. The blade shape is a modified santoku, wide on the spine tapering to an edge that's almost paper thin. The knife handle, tailored to the measurements of my small(ish) hand, is micarta. The rivets are bronze. This baby goes through a large pumpkin like it's slicing butter. When I first got it I was so happy I turned 5 kilos of carrots into julienne just for the sheer joy of it.
