Baby first aid course
Again this morning I left Eva asleep in bed whilst I got the cats sorted and myself ready, as we were leaving at 9.30 to go on a 2 hour baby first aid course with Lisa and James and Jenny and Eva, at The Ark, in Alvechurch. I had to wake her up in the end, as she was still asleep at 8.50am.
It was a really good course, and we covered everything from CPR, choking, burns, etc. It had been years since I'd learned it all so wanted to refresh my memory. Hopefully we will never ever ever need to use what we learned, but it's important to know anyhow I think. It was great as our babbas could all play whilst we listened and watched.
Eva had a nap when we got back for an hour, and when she woke, although I have been doing baby led weaning, I wanted to see how she would be with baby food fed from a spoon, so prepared her some oat and apple. The baby led weaning is extremely slow going. Everyone who's done it tells you it is, and to just keep going, as food is for fun til they're 1, and they get all the nutrients they need etc from milk, and I keep telling myself that Eva is hardly wasting away at nearly 21lb. I just wanted to see for myself if she would wolf down oat and apple if I fed it her as all babies seem to love it. Well, she wouldn't even open her mouth. She just kept trying to grab the spoon and just got it all over her face from where I'd tried all sorts to get her to eat some. I ended up eating it myself lol.
At dinner she had a few florets of broccoli and cauliflower, some carrot batons and some jacket potato wedges, and most of it got at least put in her mouth, bitten into, and some of it swallowed. Yes, it all went on the floor too, but she got further with that than she had at lunch time with the baby food.
I will try her with the baby food again though. If I can just get her swallowing, pushing the food to the back of her mouth with her tongue instead of spitting most of it out, she'll be well away. Xxx
