Wengen
Alpine weather can, in the autumn, be a little bit unpredictable, so despite a less than encouraging weather forecast we decided to walk from Wengen (where you can see the crowds waiting in the rain for the train) up to the cog-railway station at Kleine Scheidegg. By the time we’d walked slowly up to the station we had passed through the rain and mist layer, and entered the sleet and mist layer and were getting very close to the snow and mist layer. The common theme in all these layers is ‘mist’, our return walk to Wengen was along a high level ‘panoramic’ path to a cable car station at Mannlichen, which promised ‘permanent views’ of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. We got not a hint of anything other than mists with the very occasional glimpse of valley far below.
