Underneath the Spreading Chestnut Tree
There several really old Sweet Chestnut trees in Fredville Park near Canterbury. This Castanea sativa has a girth at 1.30m of 9.6m and a height of 18.6m, and is magnificent and full of years.
I haven't been able to get the exposure right, mainly because of the huge contrast on a very sunny day — I've got much to learn about such problems… Perhaps I should have tried HDR, but didn't. No excuses.
Sadly, we didn't find Majesty, the great and champion oak, even bigger and older, because it is in the private part of the estate. Perhaps another time. I do hope.
