Blackpool Illuminations
Blackpool illuminations have been a major part of Blackpool’s attractions since 1879. Each year the display of brightly coloured decorative lights stretches along the Promenade from Starr Gate to Bispham, a distance of 6 miles (10k), and has been termed ‘the greatest free light show on earth’. The outdoor show, which uses over one million electric light bulbs, runs from the end of August to the beginning of November annually.
Although it happens only occasionally, today was one of those days when I had so many pictures to choose from it was difficulty to decide what to blip. In the end, I decided to continue with the ‘after dark’ theme which seems to have crept into my journal this week, and have gone with a picture of some of the illuminations which stretch along Blackpool seafront.
