Social Standing
As I stood in the rain to get some fresh air, the words on this monument struck me. They translate as:
'To the memory of John Williamson who during 20 years of faithful service as Principle Gardner in this place, was no less respected for the good qualities suited to his station in life, than esteemed for his eminent skill in his profession, this is monument is erected by John Hope, Principle. Botanist, 1781'.
