House of Binns
It was such a nice day today, so hubby and I decided to go for a walk. The House of Binns is only a 15-20 min drive away and their website mentioned a walk around the grounds - so off we went.
It was a lovely walk which took us up to this tower with great views over the Forth and gave me the opportunity to get a few photos!
The tower was apparently built as a wager.
A witty way to waste £100!
Sir James Dalyell and his friends suggested a wager - who could come up with the most fruitless way to spend £100. Sir James won the wager by suggesting the building of a tower on top of the hill to overlook the land of his neighbours - the Hope family, they were newly rich and any joke at their expense, was well received by the old established families!
