Carl
I'm back attending my Feldenkrais training for a few days. We often have guest trainers and this time it's Carl Ginsberg. He should have been with us for a module last year but he had a stroke. And he has had a few small strokes since that time. And here he is 76 years old and a model of excellence in teaching and his way of being. Feldenkrais was originally developed by Moshe Feldenkrais to help himself recover from a stroke. Here Carl is showing what happens in the muscles sometimes when people's arm movements are restricted. And how very often people strain their shoulder when they try and compensate. I've been studying this for four years now and a lot longer informally and it's really beginning to click into place as to how I can use it not only for me and my well-being and flexibility in old age but for others too. And this summer in France I was especially aware of the difficulties that so many of the people who worked on the land have in their movement. And not just those who work on the land!
Anyway it's not a great photo but the only one of the day. I probably could have focussed a lot better but I didn't want to distract from him. Most of the learning is done through experience so descriptions and explanations are rare. And his explanations are compelling. I was struck too by the skeleton over his shoulder.
