Commemoration!
This cast iron Victorian Fountain is in the centre of one of the main paths through Overtoun Park. It was built to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The Rutherglen Coat of Arms dates from a time when Rutherglen was a shipbuilding town but the river was too shallow at that location for larger ships and shipbuilding moved down river to Glasgow. The Latin inscription 'Ex Fumo Fama' means 'Out of smoke comes fame'.
