Man in a hole!

Went for a haircut today and when I came out I wandered over to a group of four guys who were all standing around this hole watching one guy do the work. Sounds familiar I know, but bear with me, these guys do an important job in all kinds of weather. Today was chilly but sunny, can you imagine doing this when it's lashing it down with rain or blowing a blizzard? No seriously hats off to these guys they deserve our thanks.

For anyone that's interested the gas main is the large pipe and the smaller ones are the service pipes going off to individual houses. They had just smashed access into an old cast iron main that was leaking and then threaded the new plastic pipe down the middle of the old iron one. Well it saves digging the whole road up! The guys were very friendly and took the time to chat and answer my questions.

This pipe is only low pressure but there's a lot going on here and if it's not done safely and correctly we would soon know about it...!
