Chinese Scooter

A friend of mine has come down to work on his new house, and he needed something to get around. He was welcome to use my work truck, but then, that'd be somewhere with me, so he'd need a way to get to the truck to take it to Lowes.

And he found a company in Destin (beach resort near to us) that was selling their summer scooters off. Which is the green scooter above.

There was a quick Facebook discussion about whether a Chinese scooter was a good idea, and it was decided that it wasn't. It's very easy for other people to spend someone elses idea - but I was a lone voice of sanity - what can go wrong with a Chinese scooter that is 6 months old and costs $600 and will do maybe 100 miles in the next week??

The scooter company dropped the scooter off (for a fee) and have this wonderful business plan:

They buy these scooters in kit for for around $700, they build themselves during the Spring, and then rent them for $50 a day over the summer in the beach town. They then dispose of them at the end of summer for $600, which saves them the Florida accounting thing about stock (you pay tax on business assets over the New Year), you don't have to worry about them getting old and breaking down, and other stuff.

What a fantastic business plan!
