Old Press

We have an exhibition on at work just now and all employees are invited to it, I wasn't going to go as I had so much work to do but am so glad that I did! So much history and although I have worked in publishing since I was 16 I still learnt a lot!

This is a very old press that was used to print the first copy of The Dundee Courier in 1816, it was fascinating and a big difference to the huge presses that print it today! We seen a first copy of The Scots Magazine which is the worlds oldest magazine first published by us in 1739 !

Scots Mag History

There was also original artwork from the children's comic Beano! Most of our children's stories are still hand drawn in black & white then sent to the colourists to be coloured in before being scanned and sent to the press or digitalised for iPads

One of our artists who still draws today is 79yrs old and had an offer to work for Walt Disney many many years ago, which he declined preferring to work for a Scottish children's comic!

I am reliably informed that we are moving with the times and have many apps and one that is proving very popular is IPRANK which us a modern day version of a whoopee cushion! As well as other tricks !

Sorry its not a great photo but the lighting and my phone didnt help.

May be a bit behind with comments as jetting off again tomorrow for 10 days! I will comment when possible!!
