Remains...

This is what is left of the front facade of a bathhouse dating back to the early 1800s when the Knaresborough Spa Baths Company set about restoring the Starbeck Springs.

The Springs, situated in Starbeck (halfway between Harrogate and Knaresborough) date back to the 1600s. By early 1700 the Springs had a protective cover, a basin and a paved area, but fell into disrepair by the end of the century.

Hence the 1800s was a good time to capitalise on the flourishing popularity of the local booming spa industry centred at Harrogate a couple of miles away.

Behind this wall (look through the arch) is a small development of sheltered houses for use by the local people. The whole area is quite small, tucked away some distance from the busy main road.
