madness in moscow

last night the kids were having tea when one of them suddenly shouted "look"

they all ran to look out of the window he was pointing at to see two men on the roof of the 8 story building behind ours, leaning over the edge. no hard hats, no safety ropes.

they probably had a good view but I wouldn't have wanted to be them.

then, this morning, walking down Tverskaya, the main road leading north from the Kremlin, there was a section of the pavement barricaded off and we could see two men pulling heavily on a strong rope looking slightly harassed.

it was only as we got past that I realised that the rope was holding the man half way up the building, swinging in the wind and the rain trying to drill into the wall to release the large sign!

not for the faint hearted.
