Pups and goats

This is a photo of a photo - so it doesn't count as 'mine' but it's so lovely I wanted to post it. I came across this photo in some research from work, it's from the Imperial War Museum collection. World War One British airmen (1918?) posing in front of their planes with a charming array of dogs and goats. The photo tells its own story, but I can't help but wonder why? Long may they be remembered.
