Battle of Britain Day

That's what September 15th is. In 1940 waves of enemy bombers were pushed back by the RAF and while some got through 60 enemy aircraft were shot down and the lack of air dominance led Hitler to cancel Operation Sealion; the plan for a seaborne landing on the English coast. The Second World War was far from over but the invasion of Britain didn't happen and that was due, in no small part, to the men Churchill had already referred to as The Few.

So anyways. I had to be at Tenterden this evening to collect Cal so I decided to spend the afternoon away from the house so that I could get some fresh air. I headed down to Dungeness which was bleak and grey and drizzly - perfect for Dungeness. And then up to Northiam for a coffee on the station but the shop was shut so I meandered up to Tenterden and sat in the car reading. On the way home I was regaled with the tale of "the incident" yesterday when a poor unfortunate lady fell between the platform edge and a carriage which led to her lying under the train. The fire brigade and ambulance service worked to make her comfortable and then moved her, on a board, across under the carriage. She's in a stable condition in hospital.

And that's your Sunday done - hunker down and get ready to take this Monday head on; drive it like you stole it.
