I go out by myself And I look across the water

After we drove over Beau yesterday, who knew, and was distraught that we were leaving... we headed South East for Castle Douglas...

We reached there in just over an hour, checked in and had a wee bimble down the high street. What a lot of lovely shops they have; loads of crafty, arty, foody shops... We headed back to the hotel and had a lovely meal over a bottle of wine and several shorts :-)

The bar was full of hotel guests and locals and it was lovely to sit and people watch, and giggle with each other over a few drinks. Sleep came easy!

Both of us were a tad weary in the morning, and after a lovely full breakfast we headed out for another walk. A quick examine in "Vintage Sisters" across the road, and the a wander around the Loch. I've never seen quite so many swans, geese and seagurls in the one place.

We then took a drive to Gretna Designer Outlet, and had a bimble and coffee, stopped off in Dumfries, looked around the town centre and had some lunch and made it back to Castle Douglas in time for a nap, and then off out to the Fullarton Theatre for a showing of the Lone Ranger. Quite why that film got bad reviews I do not know, I loved it! 2 and a bit hours flew past.

The Fullarton Theatre itself was quite something to behold. When we approached it from the rear, we thought it was a derelict church. Coming round the front, the original church door was open, and we tentatively walked up the stairs, expecting to be going in to an emptied church with hard plastic chairs.

We couldn't have been more wrong. Inside the doorway, two people manned the computerised ticketing desk, opposite a large framed section of the stained glass, and next to the stained glass - a pretty little bar, bedecked with pews, colour changing LEDs, and a bar made from looked like the pulpit!

Walking into the Auditorium was like walking in to another world. A beautiful seated auditorium, sat amidst the wooden beamed high ceiling with beautiful down lighting emphasising it's beautiful shape.

Staff stood at the front selling popcorn and sweets, and even Galloway Ice cream from Chill boxes. Best thing about this place - it is run completely by volunteers - cinema screenings, plays, pantos, and hire. At the end of the film, three of them were standing at the foot of the stairs with plastic bags, and everyone without exception, took their rubbish down and dropped it into the plastic bags!

Lovely example of a community making the most of their facilities.
