Another Brass Band.

I saw the bunting strung up along the pathway into St Giles Church on Castle Street, Cambs, and followed the trail to see what was going on inside. They had an Open Day with lots of stalls selling books, jewellery and various crafts. I had a go on the Tombola and won a bottle of shower gel, which was handy, then I noticed the tea and cake stall with a delicious selection of tasty treats. I chose a strawberry and cream cake with a nice cup of tea. A quartet was playing soft background music for a while, then the Cambridge & Surrounding District Brass Band began their programme. Several young people were playing and they started with 'Born Free' which sounded really good with the church acoustics. I chose this for today as it was, once again, miserable weather and it looked so nice and colourful in the lovely surroundings of the church. St Giles was rebuilt in1875 costing £8,000, in an early French Gothic style and using some materials from the original, built in the 1500's. The interior is quite lovely but the exterior is very plain looking. As I left, another group was setting up and I made a note of future concerts to be held there. A most unexpected and enjoyable afternoon.
