Assynt in the Mist

Day 5 of the Toonies in a Van tour:

Leaving the drizzle, low cloud, mist and midges of the west coast behind we headed east in search of better weather.

The landscape was very different to that we saw on the way in, with all of the peaks above 100m hidden from view. But the misty views along the loch sides were just amazing.

I did have to brave thigh-high heather, very squidgy peat bog and more of the ferocious midges just to get down to the water's edge. I think it was worth it.

At the end of the day we rolled into Dornoch where the weather was very much better. It's not a place I'd ever been to before and I must say I was very impressed.
