Hoopoe

The temperature is hotting up here which will make Yom Kippur tougher this year for those who are fasting. It begins this evening.

Yom Kippur, also known as Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with an approximate 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Here on the kibbutz there are a few people observing the fast, but I'm not one of them - I've already got a migraine and being hungry doesn't help it.

Today we've cooled down in the pool, hung out with friends, run for cover to the bomb shelter when the alarm sounded, tried to get a decent shot of a chameleon but he managed to give me the slip, drunk lots of water .... And then I sent Sav after this Hoopoe that was pecking away at worms close by us for a good half an hour as I was too hot to move!

So, I wish everyone with the strength to fast " tzom cal " ( an easy fasting ) and a happy weekend to one and all.
