Wind & rain.

Not a nice day at all. But at least we weren't as bad off as other people. Just before I left to go to a meeting at Waitaria Bay (25 minutes drive away). PJ got a call from his friend who had just been informed that his boat was sinking on its mooring at the Portage. This is about 20 - 25 minutes by boat to there from our place in strong winds and rough seas.
We got the boat in the water (it was still on the trailer up at the shed), and he picked up a pump to take with him. When he got there, there were two chaps who had rowed out to the boat in dinghies and were bailing out the water with buckets. Then the pump wouldn't go!! So back down our way again to pick up another young chap, who said they had a pump. But that didn't work either......... so they just had to bail out as much water as they could, so it could be left on the mooring overnight, and be towed to Havelock marina in the morning.
I got to my meeting ok, a lot of twigs, leaves etc on the road. The photo is a view from the house where we had the meeting. I wasn't going to open the doors onto her deck, as about 3 hours before a big gust came down the valley and took half the roof off her little garden shed. The roof wasn't in the yard, or on the road, so the only other place for it was out the bay, in the sea! She got a neighbour to lash the rest of it down with ropes and ties. They were going to look for the part of the roof at low tide in the morning.
The white line out past the mussel farm (that's the lines of black dots out the bay) is a willy-waw starting up. (Willy-waws are like a water spout, but it is just a straight line, rather than going in a spiral.)
