Coming off the Kessock Bridge this morning, I was turning into this near hairpin route and wondering what the reception committee was for. I'd imagined they were there for some sort of Land's End to John O'Groats event - such things pass through the area regularly.

They shouted after me, and I stopped to see what the fuss was about. Cycle to Work Day - and they, the two (un-helmeted) lasses from Velocity (Cafe and Bicycle Workshop) were dishing out tea. coffee, and date slices to passing cyclists. I accepted the latter two, which were great, and had a blether with various folk. I'm glad I'd set off early. Whilst a tad chilly (extra layer required), it was a lovely morning.

What little coffee I do drink, isn't normally early in the morning, and that free one was fairly strong. I can see how folk become addicted to it - I was buzzing all morning. That surely can't be good for you, at least not on a regular basis. Unless of course it was the date slice...

Heavy showers this afternoon and evening. I hung back after work, and rather than go for a swim, headed for home through what turned out to be a lull in the downpours. It must have been pretty heavy earlier on, and overloaded the drainage system. There was the distinctly unpleasant smell of raw sewage coming from one of the outfall pipes near the Kessock Bridge. Yuck...
