Not For Vegetarians?!

Passed this area a couple of times recently.

These flats, and the courtyard behind, are part of a housing development making use of land once occupied by the Meat Market and Abattoir. You can just about make out a cow's head above the archway of the original meat market wall. There is a further entrance just along from here which has another section of the wall and a statue of one of the cattle at the entrance.

I remember when I was at school there used to be horrific stories about what happened to the animals in this place. Most of them were probably untrue but may have partly contributed to me eventually becoming vegetarian.

It wasn't the best of areas but it now looks great and these houses are very attractive. There is more to it than can be seen from this picture taken at the main road. I suspect there are a few potential pictures at this location. Didn't hang around for long as the weather kept changing.
