Snowfall on Mt Wellington

Funny to think this mountain is named after the Iron Duke, who never actually visited Tasmania. Our main market is located in Salamanca square, yet again commemorating the Battle of Salamanca in the Peninsular war. The formative years of Hobarton as the then town was known occurred around the Napoleonic era. Mt Wellington is 1,271 metres high and is covered in snow at varying stages throughout Winter, though two years ago we had snow on the mountain in January. There are several Aboriginal tribal names for Mt. Wellington, but the one that has recently been bandied around in the local paper is Kunanyi.
