Broadside

Mount Torlesse from Springfield, with The Gap peering over her shoulder, and the Back Peak lost in the cloud. The wind was so strong I had to brace myself against a post, and it was surprisingly cold.

My son was off work again today because his workplace still had no power. We went for a little tour of the district. We saw the burnt-out hedges and the scrub, very close to the houses. No more views of Mount Torlesse with the yellow broom in the foreground. In one place there were irrigation pipes strewn about, and in another there was a tree lying across power lines that were stretched to the ground. Big old pine trees were down below the lip of the Waimakariri Gorge, and the Waimakariri River was very high, running swift and muddy. And everywhere was littered with branches.

The power has been off here, due to the storm. I have backblipped-

the storm

the day after.
