Karoutes
On our way to Tristeno again. Our summer holidays just started. Just after Amfissa town and before Santa Efthymia village, we decided to make a change of our usual way to Lidoriki.
We passed through the village of Karoutes. I have never been there before.
During WWII, on August 5th 1944, the greek resistance hit german troops after an ambush. They were on their way to burn Lidoriki. Almost all germans were killed.
My father, who was 15 yo, was among them (not old enough to carry a gun but appropriate to support) who were carrying the ammo before the fight. After the fight the corpses had to be burned. He can't forget the naked bodies of the dead young soldiers. He mostly can't forget the smell of the dead bodies. He was putting petrol around his nose trying to avoid the smell of the death.
You see the man in the middle of the picture? He told me that he was among the fighters. He is older than my father.
Finally other troops were sent and Lidoriki was not saved.
