Deal Time Tower

Although TARDIS like in proportions, this is all about time for travellers, rather than travellers in time.
Situated on the seafront at Deal, the ball could be seen by all the ships anchored in The Downs an area between the Kent shore and the Goodwin Sands that offered a sheltered anchorage as sailing ships waited for a fair wind. At 1pm every day the ball was dropped and ship's masters could set their chronometers before starting a voyage. Accurate time keeping was essential to calculate longitude.

We caught the bus to Sandwich and walked the town trail before getting a train to Deal. We thought we may get away with a dry day but it's raining again now.
