Flying High
After a morning of Zumba and food shopping, I went to Devils Dyke with Annie, one of the ladies I met at the photographic group. Devils Dyke is a 100 metre deep V-shaped valley on the South Downs, which according to local folklore was the work of the Devil.
There's a ruin of a building which we went to look at, and you have to climb up a hill to the entrance, but at the other side there's a 6ft drop. Unfortunately Louis didn't look before he lept, and gave me the fright of my life! He was on his extending lead but was so excited that he was leaping and jumping about, and jumped straight out of the a gap in the wall with the 6ft drop on the other side! It happened so quickly there wasn't much I could do but to hold his lead taught, and slowly lower him to the ground. Annie went to get him as I didn't want to let go of his lead until she was there in case he ran off in fear. Luckily he was fine, just shaken, but it's frightening to think what could have happened!
Anyway, once he'd calmed down we went for a walk through the valley, and he was soon back to his usual self, running around and eating poo! Once we got back to the top, there were a lot of people with hand gliders and para gliders, so we stood and watched them for a while - it was amazing, and one guy saw us taking photos so he kept flying right above our heads. It took lots of shots but I like this one as it shows how high up we were - the view was stunning and I imagine on a clear day you can see for miles!
Anyway, after his traumatic experience, Louis is now curled up fast asleep on the sofa, and hopefully he won't try doing that again in a hurry!
If you want to join him in his flight, have a closer look!
