Waiting

Three combine harvesters lie in the yard opposite awaiting better weather to finish the harvest while in the big shed the sound of the grain driers continues to hum away. But there is still work to do. I write as darkness falls and can see a tractor rushing in while another has just returned with a disc harrow and a third tractor has recently departed with more seed to plant in newly ploughed fields. With powerful lights the farmers can continue to work throughout the night trying to beat the forecast heavy rain later in the week.
