en plein air (Weyers)

I am forever on the lookout for an artist painting outdoors, so I get very excited when I find one! It seems to be a rare pastime nowadays, and yet I think of all the artists who love painting landscapes who don't know what they're missing when they choose to work indoors and not directly from the subject. Call me old-fashioned, but some magic happens out there that energises you and etches the view on your brain. Even if the artwork turns out to be a flop, the experience of having been out there really looking remains deeply satisfying.
