Learning day by day

Science Museum

William didn't have nursery today to at his request we went to London for the day. The initial plan had been to go to Buckingham Palace and Horse Guards but as the weather was threatening to get us wet we headed to the Science Museum instead.

It was an inspired decision, the schools were back so the museum mostly only had pre-schoolers and tourists in it. This meant loads of opportunity to mess around with the hands on stuff in the Launchpad. It also meant we went to a talk all about rockets. despite the very young audience the explainer didn't change her spiel, so we 'learnt' about Newton's three laws and she exploded hydrogen balloons, which was enough to make half the audience leave! William however is made of sterner stuff and although he didn't really like the bangs it didn't stop him volunteering for every experiment until he (and I) were finally picked.

I had to sit on a wheeled chair and William had to push me, then vice versa, to explain Newton's 2nd law. The explainer asked the boychild what his name was and he answered quite confidently "William", she then asked him who I was "Mummy", he was then asked if I had another name, to which he looked a bit confused and replied indignantly "MUMMY!". Bless.

So after a lovely few hours and a nice lunch we headed home to pick up Carys from school. They both want to go back, but I am not sure when we will do it as it is normally very busy and very hot.
