Chianti On The Hoof
In a month or so, these beautiful Sangiovese grapes will be hand-picked and turned into Chianti Classico.
Today, Mr. W and I took a four-mile walk through the local villages to an Etruscan tomb, which was hidden about a mile off the road through vineyards and olive groves, over hill and dale. There were signs directing us, but it still felt sort of like we were on a treasure hunt! I found it astonishing that this ancient burial place was not discovered until 1978.
We then had a long, leisurely lunch in San Casciano in Val di Pesa with Tom and Kristin, and now we are considering going for a swim, despite the fact that the gray clouds are rolling in. So what if it rains? We'll already be wet!
