To a gull...

I think creatures like seagulls and grey squirrels get a bad rap. I know this isn't a popular opinion, I've even seen a contradictory argument on a blip today.

I took Bethany and Ewan down to the park today with a load of bread to feed to the seagulls and these whatever they are (I'm not up on my birdie species so if anyone can identify them, please do.).

I often hear them referred to flying vermin, flying rats, that sort of thing but I'm always in awe of anything that has achieved independent flight. I think I'm just jealous.

Birds are really just living and I can't understand why they get these labels. They don't act in any other way than that which their instinct and evolution has brought them to. I think it's kind of hypocritical of us as a species that has more or less permanently screwed up this planet to discriminate against any creature that doesn't have the sentience to act on decisions and choices outside of what instinct provides them. It would seem to me that any behaviour these birds exhibit is ultimately down to the environment we have built around them, hence our fault.
