Haslemere Town Under 15s had their first game of the season today away at Hartley Wintney.
There were three things that were noticeable today. Firstly, the pitch was huge. Secondly, each half lasted for 40 minutes which made it feel like a very long game. And finally, how much some of the lads - and particularly the opposition - have grown during the summer months!
There was some problem with the pitch we were due to play on, so instead we played on the first team pitch. Hartley Wintney play in the Premier League of the Combined Counties League, which is quite a high level of non-league football, and they have a proper pitch, with substitute benches and a real proper stand for supporters!
Left to right are the lovely Rachael and Tash; Simon, Richard, Chris and Wayne. Alastair is not in the picture because he very kindly volunteered to run the line today. Admittedly he looked a little camp with his hand on his hip whilst he was holding the flag up, but it looked as if he knew the offside rule, so he is our first choice linesman for the season......
Oh - we lost 7-1, but both lads had reasonably good games. They'll be asleep early tonight!
