To Russia with love
8th September is the International Day of Solidarity for Global LGBT Equality and my friend Shelly Telly, one of the organisers of Norwich Pride, set up an event whereby people were asked to come along to the steps of City Hall this morning with messages of support for LGBT people in Russia. She asked me to take photos, and she is going to make a short film which we will then post onto the international website.
Our friend Jonathan, who sings in our choir, is a retired languages teacher and translated messages into Russian for us. And impressed us all by having a conversation in Russian with a chap who passed by purely by chance.
About a dozen people turned up and we got some great shots. Another friend, Di, is one of the producers on Future Radio and she recorded some vox pops from people.
This is a shot of Poppy, proudly sporting the rainbow flag and waving the Russian flag. The rest of my photos can be seen here.
We had a bit of an anxious moment at the beginning of the session when some smart-arse asked: 'Are you sure that's not the Dutch flag?' Or the Danish flag? Oh, wait, what does the Swedish flag look like?
