Another Red Admiral

New Zealand Red Admiral,  Vanessa gonerilla gonerilla, endemic to New Zealand.

I was surprised to see a red admiral butterfly in my garden a couple of weeks ago. And today there was another one. This one was battered like the other, but it did have both its antennae intact, unlike the other. In this shot you can see the l-shaped proboscis plunged into a flower.

They are so rare in this area that I can't think how they came to be here.
