Summer of Wildlife

Do you know how sometimes you have the loveliest day and you really want an equally lovely picture to go with it- and you just can't for the life of you get one? Well, today was one of those days. Those aren't even my child's hands!

Anyway, we had a wonderful day out at Heaton Park for the Summer of Wildlife celebration put on by the BBC. It was a lot of fun! There were bugs, bats, birds of prey, pond dipping vats to peer into, and even trapeze artists! Chickpea made bobble butterfly antennae and walked in an animal parade and Monkey got to touch an eagle owl (such soft feathers!) and loved the drumming best of all I think. There was a tent with a large circle of drums and Monkey watched the instructors intently as he pounded his drum and did a little dance. He stayed in there ages. CP only lasted a minute or so because it was "too loud." We also went on a nature walk with Naomi, a presenter from CBBC (she also joined us in the drum circle) so we had our brush with a celebrity. We have never watched CBBC but it was still exciting, especially when she commented on how much Monkey was enjoying the drums.

My favourite was these very tall, bouncy rabbits that were cavorting around the place all day. They were chatting and blowing bubbles with wands for the kids and they were just delightful. CP loved them but wouldn't talk to them and pretty much steered clear when they came by. She said her favourite part was "playing with my friend, Lottie." Awwww. She seemed pretty excited about seeing the bats, too.
