Museum of Rail Travel
Based at Ingrow, Keighley, West Yorkshire, the Vintage Carriage Trust's Museum of Rail Travel is housed in the former Midland Railway goods warehouse at Ingrow Station. It has several Victorian and Edwardian carriages, complete with mannequins in period costume to add to the authenticity of the experience. There are several locomotives on display along with the carriages and if you peek right into the back of the warehouse you can see several carriages in the process of being restored. There are also interesting items of rail travel memorabilia just everywhere, all adding to the story and to your enjoyment of the visit, and you can even climb up to and aboard the little green ‘Lord Mayor’ steam engine showing in the picture. Carriages from this museum have featured in over 60 cinema and TV productions, and there are sound and video presentations a-plenty to bring the past to life. A multi-award winning museum, it is well worth spending a few hours there just soaking up the atmosphere of yesteryear travel.
