Sugar roses

So I was up until the wee hours making full bloom sugar roses out if tinted gum paste for the cake I blipped yesterday.
I made the centres slightly darker so they look like the flowers are opening.
I really enjoy making them because they're quite simple (only equipment you need is a plastic sleeve), but the visual impact is impressive.
They're finished off with a gentle touch of edible shimmer powder to make them glisten and fixed in place with royal icing.

Transporting it was a little hairy, not only did the finished cake weigh like 10kg in total but where I live is notorious for pot holes!! Fortuitously I arrived at the reception venue in one piece. I really hope the bride and groom are happy with the finished result.

The rest of the I've spent mooching around the city centre and playing with Emma's new pug puppy. He's adorable.
