What nut?

I collect these every year and ask the question, "Wossat?" Note the new growth for next year, ready to cower down through the winter then surge forth, rather like myself.

Any help would be appreciated. As is her wont Flossie will attempt to eat them, she loves hazel nuts, especially avec eau du Squirrel on them.

Must rush there's an afternoon of rugby on BT TV and madam has a very bad headache, so any offers of a casserole, pots of soup, hand peeled grapes etc to keep my strength up would be appreciated.
