Nostalgia

In the morning we walked out from the house and took a circular route. On the way we passed a standing stone and the Reekie Linn.

We spent the rest of the day in Alyth. There is an excellent local history museum where I found a photograph of my Mum. She was taking part in a play being put on by the Ruthven WRI Drama group.

My Dad's mother and father lived in Alyth and until I was 13 we spent our holidays with them. There are loads of memories. My Granny and Grandad lived in this block. Their door has been blocked off to make a window on the right at the top of the stairs and their kitchen was behind the window on the top right. They cooked, ate and slept in that room. I remember a range for cooking and a sink in the window. There was another room that looked out the other side of the block, but it was kept for guests. There was an outside toilet.

In the border at the bottom of the steps there grew an apple-ringie (southernwood) plant and every time I passed I would rub the leaves between my fingers to release the perfume. Imagine my surprise to see an apple-ringie still growing in the same spot. Could it be the same plant after 50 years?!
