A True Craftsman of a Lost Art

I love to cook! You already know that we eat out frequently, but I also love to cook! But, to me, perhaps the most important tool in the kitchen is a good quality, sharp knife. Thankfully, my husband also loves to cook and agrees with me. Home knife sharpeners leave a lot to be desired. We much prefer having our knives sharpened by a true professional sharpener.

Dwayne is one of those true craftmen who know how to sharpen all sorts of instruments. We dropped our knives off at his house yesterday to be sharpened and picked them up today. He put an absolutely perfect edge on all my knives. He then showed us his shop and I had the opportunity to take a number of photos of him sharpening an assortment of instruments. Most of his equipment he has built himself.

But he isn't just a guy who sharpens things. He was also a professor of mathematics and statistics at a major university until he retired. Now he teaches linear regression as an adjunct professor. And in his spare time, he is the head of a local produce co-op. His son now tends the farm, but Dwayne coordinates all of the local growers for the different farmers markets in the area.

A truly amazing man.

Also, thank you for all the wonderful comments and stars for the tree hopper I blipped yesterday!
